SNOW DAY, BLOODY SNOW DAY (2005)

Starring: Justin Alley, Ben Dunn, Zach Adair and Tim Tate

Directed by: Faye Hoerauf and Jessica Baxter

When the City of Seattle, Washington starts receiving these strange white fluffy crystals from the sky call snow, the citizens start turning into killer zombies.

If you are expecting a full movie on this plot you will be surprised to know that this is a 14 minute short film, but it packs enough zombies, along with lots of laughs, in it's short running time.

Filmed on a $7000 budget in 30 days, by two woman, this short is an excellent example on what you can do with a small budget and lots of friends. a great number of the actors in front of the camera, also worked behind the camera. The directors also co-wrote the screenplay.

Here's the film in a nutshell (I can write the entire film since it was only 14 minutes). Seattle received a snowfall which turns it's citizens into zombies. This contaminated snow was created by a scientist working at the local television station. It seems they had a machine that would start rains, floods, etc., and recently snow. But the snow has an adverse affect on humans. Don't go expecting Romero gore munching zombies. This film has it tongue firmly in cheek. A group of gamer slackers receive a knock on the door by a stranger, who of course they let in. He acts like a slender, over-acting Bruce Campbell-type hero, but he does it wonderfully. Together, with the slackers, they make their way to the television station and defeat the scientist.

But the best comedic moments are left for the zombies. The tactics they use to try and lure people out of their homes are extremely funny. One set of zombies stands outside a woman's house with a large check as if she had won the Clearinghouse Sweepstakes. Of course the woman runs out excited and gets eaten by the pack.

There is little gore to speak of but it is not missed, in fact more gore would have ruined this wonderful short. The zombie make-up is impressive considering the budget, and twelve (12) people credited as make-up artists. The DVD also contains extras, the best showing how the filmmakers came up with ideas for funding their project.
