NIGHT OF THE DEVILS (1972)
Starring: Gianni Garko, Agostina Belli, Maria Monti
Directed by: Giorgio Ferroni

This little Italian/Spanish co-production turned out to be a surprisingly good Euro-horror film. In the first 10 minutes alone, we get a collage of nudity and gory images that kept my interest going for more. Though it's slow paced, there's enough creepy atmosphere and a couple nice scenes to keep you watching.
The end is top shelf and
worth the wait. Basically, it's a take on 'The Wurdalak' as a man gets stuck
in the middle of nowhere with a strange family hiding plenty of secrets
and
seedy goings on. Things build up until our poor stranger finds out the
truth; He's up to his neck in vampires, even the hot chick he's been
bedding.
When the bloodsuckers reveal themselves, it turns very nasty. The scene where the mother is attacked by her own child is vicious. The child bites and claws at her mom until she's a bloody mess with gory body parts hanging off her body.
The same child
and her brother sit and laugh as vampires swarm in on the fleeing man who
does the smart thing and runs away. The film began with him stumbling from
nowhere and ending up in a hospital with amnesia. The reasons for his
hysteria of darkness and a female visitor become all to clear later. In the
end, he must kill to survive and gets blamed for killing off his vampiric
girlfriend. Give this one a try even if you hate Euro stuff, might sink its
teeth into you.
