dark floors (2008)
Starring: skye bennett, noah huntley, dominique mceligott
Directed by: pete riski

On a stormy, a worried
father (Huntley), watches as his daughter is having another hospital
procedure when suddenly the machine almost blows up in smoke. Upset that the
hospital cannot find a cure for his daughter, he attempts to take her out of
the hospital in her wheel chair. The nurse who is working on his daughter's
case tries to talk him out of leaving as he gets on the elevator to go down.
Before he leaves with the nurse with him a man carrying a gift and a
security guard, who is escorting a drunk to his room, get on also.
The elevator get stuck for a moment and it goes down one floor (the seventh). But when the door opens, the hospital appears deserted. No patients, doctors, nurses. They attempt to call for help on the intercom, but they hear there own voices coming back.
That's not all they find on the seventh, they find what appears to be a woman in a wheelchair. When they go to her, she's dead with her eyes gouged out. Then suddenly a ghastly apparition destroys almost the entire floor, so they all rush for the stairs. But it seems the further down they go the more the hospital appears as if it's been empty for years. They run into monsters, zombies, and finally the major terror that is causing all of this.
Director Riski has helmed what first appears to be a made for TV movie but quickly goes into horror overdrive as the motley crew go further into the depths of hell, with no way out in sight.
The special effects are
actually at a minimum here as this film is not just about the horror, but is
extremely
character
driven. All the actors involved are completely into their roles, so the very
tense atmosphere, along with what may be lurking around the next corner
makes for a very exciting film.
In another director's hands, this could have been another celluloid disaster. Considering director Riski's only other experience was directing music video's in Finland, he has a keen eye for character development.
Dark Floors is the most expensive horror film made in the country of Finland. Let's hope they become new players in the horror genre.
